Long Time Posting!!!

Jen this photo is for you. This photo is two weeks ago (twists with shine wax...these are a week old and still look pretty good), I can't do the big twists like you do on Emmi which I love, they don't stay in her hair.

An fellow adoptive mom reminded me that I haven't posted in a long time and I will try to get better. Would love to know what other moms are using right now that they love!

I have been using the Wen products on my hair and I love it. I originally bought it for Darline's hair, but I didn't like it at all on her tight curls. I wouldn't spend the $$$ to try on your child. But love it on me....so a good find for one of us! I would like to try the Aubrey Organics products but haven't tried them yet.

I went back to th Infusium Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner and forgot how much it I liked it and how great it makes her hair feel, I don’t even need a deep conditioner. Last Friday night we took her hair out and let her sleep all night (with a silk cap) with her hair drenched in coconut oil. Her hair was super soft and healthy when we washed it the next day. I am trying this again tomorrow.

I still like the Garnier water based shine wax for the twists and holding hair in….but I use A LOT or she gets the frizzies. I put a ton and make her hair almost straight with the stuff from scalp to ends before twisting. It looks very pretty, holds well and super shiny for quite a few days.

I did do yarn extensions a few weeks ago (I like them better than the fake hair, they don’t shed out and they don’t itch her). This time I used super thick sweater yarn and it was full and beautiful, she loved it. It lasted for four weeks (I didn’t wash it…but oiled the roots a lot and used a lot of leave in. It could have gone four weeks if I would have redone some at the crown about 2.5 weeks in. It took me five hours. The nice part is if you go four weeks they start to grow out nicely and you can just slide them out when you are ready to take them out rather than unbraiding them. I only do the big hair about once a quarter because it takes so long.

This week it is in the fake twist cornrows (I really need to work on cornrowing...for some reason I am afraid of it) on top and poofs in the back. I love that style makes her look like a little girl. It was starting to look frizzy at day two because she has been playing a lot in the blow up pool in the back yard, so I took the puffs out and rinsed and heavily conditioned the rows and the back with the Infusium and the frizzies went away….for two full days…they are back somewhat today, but tomorrow we take it out anyway.

Let me know what you are trying…still looking for the miracle.

Hair Day

This week's hair routine! Start to finish, a lot of new products.

1. Shampoo with the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Shampoo. This shampoo seems to work just as well as the Hello Hydration or the Infusium.

2. Hello Hydration as the first conditioner.
3. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle as the deep conditioner. This one works really well! This is the second time I have tried it, it is reasonably priced and works very well.
4. Love this. I bought it on a whim at Target this week. After combing out D's hair and putting in generic Morraccan Oil from Sallys, I used this before twisting and after sectioning. After pulling apart a section I put 1/2 a pump per twist and combed out. It helped D's hair comb out easily and made it super sleek to go in to the twists.
5. LOVE THIS!!! I used this before our trip in Hawaii. I am anxious to see how long it lasts without swimming, chlorine and salt water. If you are going to try this, I use A LOT. I put a don on he back of my hand and pretty much saturate her hair while twisting. It is water based, has a super shiny finish and seems to hold very well! I will update you next week on the end of the week hold!

Update on Sleek and Shine Shampoo

It doesn't seem any better than the Infusium or the Hello Hydration Shampoo. I will use the two big bottles..not sure if I will purchase again...although it does work well on Katy and Maya's hair.

New Shampoo to Try

So, I like to try to buy items that I can use on all of my kids. Especially if it doesn't work for D's hair, at least I can use it on the other kids. So last night while surfing the internet I found this blog: http://www.tightlycurly.com/

She talked about her favorite products...so while at Costco today they had the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Shampoo (one of her recommended shampoos). She recomends the Herbal Essence for conditioners, I still love those and the Infusium Moisturologie (which still may be my all time favorite), but thinks the Herbal Essence Shampoos are too drying. So....while I will use the rest of the Herbal Essence on the other girls, I bought two huge bottles of the Sleek and Shine at Costco. I haven't tried them on D's curls yet, but they worked well on my other two girls and they let their hair soft without conditioner and tangle free, so I have hope for trying it on D.

Products I Want to Try....

These two are on my list to try, I read an article on "thirsty hair" in a magazine....so if you try them first let me know.

1. Dove Intense Damage Therapy Conditioner. I know me and I will buy the matching shampoo also, but I have a couple more washes left of the Hello Hydration...so until that it gone...I have watched a couple of You Tube videos on this and the reviews have been good leaving natural hair really soft and another video said it is amazing.

2. Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Tiem Renewal Mask. It is supposed to be used as a deep conditioner. It claims it will make amends for up to two years of damage after a month's use. There are no supporting videos that I could find, but since it retails for $5, I thought I would give it a try.

New Products

Here is what I am trying:

Aveeno Active Naturals Nourish + Condition Leave In Treatment ($6.50) This is a spray leave-in. I have been using on Darline's hair for a few days in combination with the Pantene Relaxed and Natural Daily Oil Cream Moisture. I usually spray D's hair in the morning with a leave-in, and then in the evening put a grape size amount of the Pantene in her hair. I have to say that the two combined have kept her hair super soft this week and no itching! I am always trying something...so you never know what is next!

One Week In

to the yarn braids and they are holding up well (a little fuzzy on the crown). I am still putting oil on her base every three days and in the parts.

Anyone out there make their own shea butter?
